Judelkis Perez 1/11 Update on Next Generation ELA and Math StandardsThe DOE announced the New York State Education Department (NYSED) implementation roadmap and timeline for the Next Generation Learning Standards in English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics, which includes goals and activities for stakeholders to raise awareness of, build capacity around, and implement the Next Generation Learning Standards. As part of Phase I: Raise Awareness, NYSED released Professional Development Turnkey Toolkits to support you and your staff in ensuring all education stakeholders in your school are aware of the revised standards and timeline for implementation. In addition, the DOE previously released Monday professional learning materials to support you and your staff in facilitating professional learning that raises awareness of the new standards, and the implications for teaching and learning.
The DOE is currently in Phase II: Capacity Building, which calls for integration of the Next Generation Learning Standards into curriculum, instruction and assessment design as we prepare for Phase III: Full Implementation for the 2020–21 school year.
