Update on Next Generation ELA and Math StandardsThe New York State Education Department (NYSED) has released a three-year Implementation Roadmap for the Next Generation Learning Standards in English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics, to support your school-based staff with the transition. The roadmap is a recommended plan that includes goals and activities for stakeholders to raise awareness of, build capacity around, and implement the Next Generation Learning Standards. For an overview of the new standards, including a FAQ and roadmap flyer, see the NYSED Implementation page. You should share the roadmap flyer with your school-based staff.
Updated FAQ on School TripsThe FAQ Regarding School Trips has been updated to provide you with further guidance on how to plan for domestic and international school trips and comply with the requirements of Chancellor’s Regulation A–670. Specifically, additional clarification is made around timelines for planning school trips; steps to follow when a student requires nursing services; the administration of medication; providing special transportation or other accommodations; resources for trip advisories and warnings; as well as immunizations and heath precautions. Please review both the regulation and the updated FAQ and share them with your staff, who are responsible for coordinating and participating in school trips.
