Transition to the Social Studies Framework (2014): You and your staff must ensure that your school’s Global History and Geography courses are aligned to the K–12 Social Studies Framework (2014) for all students commencing the Global History sequence in September 2017. Students who commenced the Global History sequence prior to September 2017 may continue to receive instruction that is aligned to the NYS Learning Standards for Social Studies (1996) and the skills and content for grades 9 and 10 found in the Social Studies Resource Guide and Core Curriculum (1998), where appropriate. This transition does not affect the required course credits students must earn in order to receive a diploma; students must still pass the required, four-credit sequence of Global History and Geography in order to graduate. Transition to the Global History and Geography II Regents Exam: Beginning June 2019, the new exam will be based on the K–12 Social Studies Framework (2014) and will assess skills learned throughout all four credits of Global History and content from 1750 through the present. To ensure a transition for students who complete their course of study prior to the introduction of the new Global History and Geography II Regents exam, a transition exam based on the existing test format will also be given. As described in this guidance document, students will take the Global History and Geography Regents exam that corresponds to the school year they commence the Global History and Geography sequence. The guidance document also includes a timeline of when each exam will be introduced and/or phased out, as well as answers to frequently asked questions. For questions about aligning Global History and Geography courses to the K–12 Social Studies Framework (2014), contact your FSC instructional lead. For questions about credit or exam requirements or exam ordering, contact your FSC lead for academic policy & systems/performance & assessment. |
