Common Core Curricul Professional DevelopmentThe NYCDOE is offering the following professional development (PD) and resources on Common Core-aligned curriculum and instruction:
Registration Links for Session 3 and Core Knowledge for Pre-K: See the reminder below. Online Resources Reminder: The following online resources are available to schools that opted into the Core Curriculum programs below: § Code X: You are invited to participate in the next Code X webinar, “Engaging Students in Academic Discourse.” The first half of the webinar will focus on building vocabulary and strategies for scaffolding evidence-based conversations, including facilitating Socratic Seminars. Participants will then discuss strategies for facilitating the “Collaborate and Present” task and for creating a supportive learning environment for rich conversations in their classrooms. All webinars will take place from 4:00–6:00 p.m.; register here: November 21 and November 25. § Core Knowledge: Note that the December Core Knowledge office hours, originally scheduled for December 2, have been rescheduled. Office hours will take place on December 9 for educators of grades K–2 and on December 16 for pre-k educators. Both sessions will take places from 3:30–4:30 p.m. Information about the content of the session and how to register will be shared in Principals’ Weekly the week before the sessions. HAPPY THANKSGIVINGDistribution of Teacher's Choice FundsThe process by which eligible school staff members receive Teacher’s Choice funds has changed. Last year’s Teacher’s Choice funds were issued as a direct deposit on a non-payday or as a debit card. This year’s Teacher’s Choice funds will be issued to eligible school staff in their paycheck for November 29; these funds are not taxed. Eligible staff who receive these funds are required to spend them on qualifying educational materials (see “Using Teacher’s Choice Funds” on page 3) by February 28 and to submit original receipts by March 3. Please be reminded of these guidelines and participant's responsibilities, which are posted on the Teacher’s Choice website.
