January Regents: Per-Session Opportunities, Training, and Student Scheduling
Per Session Opportunities: There is a high need for applicants for per session opportunities (#92–97) associated with distributed scoring, especially for history exams. Please forward this information sheet to your staff and encourage them to apply for these positions, which are open to teachers and/or supervisors. Actively sharing this information with your staff will help ensure that our strongest educators are selected for these positions, allowing for rigorous scorer training, efficient operations at scoring sites, and fair and accurate scoring of student exams. The deadline to apply for these postings is December 6; applications must be submitted through the online application portal. Note that there will be sites in each borough for the scoring of math and history exams.
Please be aware of and sensitive to the significance of seasonal observances and religious holidays as you work to foster mutual understanding and respect for your community’s diverse religious, racial, ethnic, and cultural heritages. The Constitution prohibits a school system from endorsing or promoting a particular religion or belief system; please share these guidelines regarding the display of cultural and holiday symbols with your staff:
The primary purpose of any displays should be to promote understanding and respect for the rights of all individuals regarding their beliefs, values, and customs.
Pic Of The Week
We would like to invite Teachers to a town meeting for each middle school grade to discuss the recent increase in bullying referrals. Also we would like to roll out the Universal language centered around student noise level in the classroom. Mr. Link will be providing pizza for the first twenty minutes of 4th period for teachers, with the town meeting with students to follow. Your presence at these meetings is essential because school wide use of these tools will reinforce our unified effort in instituting Responsibility Centered Discipline. Below is the schedule when each grade will meet. Please attend the meeting that best fits with the students you teach.
Pizzas for teachers will be served in the teachers lounge, student town meeting will be held in the black box 20 minutes into the period.
6th grade-Tuesday, December 11th, 4th period
7th grade-Wednesday, December 12th-4th period
8th grade-Thursday, December 13th-4th period
For the first time, NYCDOE teachers have the opportunity to receive formative feedback on Common Core-aligned performance tasks that they are designing for their students. Common Core Fellows, content experts in their field who have a deep understanding of Common Core alignment, will provide the feedback. To submit a task for review, teachers should visit the Common Core Library between December 7 and January 4. Please share this opportunity with your teachers.
Distribution of Teacher's Choice Allocations
The Teacher's Choice Program provides an opportunity for teachers to purchase instructional materials and supplies for use in their classrooms. Teacher’s Choice allocations are determined in accordance with EIS title records and issued to all eligible staff actively employed as of November 1. Participants who are enrolled in direct deposit will receive allocations on December 4; participants who are not enrolled in direct deposit will receive a debit card with the December 14 payroll. If you identify any staff members who are mistakenly excluded in the December allocation, you should notify the Special Projects Unit by February 1. There will be a second distribution of Teacher’s Choice allocations at the end of February.
Assistant principals who teach a high school class and permanent substitute teachers/ROTC instructors with a ‘5BA’ or ‘5BP’ status had an opportunity to apply to participate in this process in October. If any of these staff members missed the initial application date, they should submit the appropriate form (the High School Assistant Principal Certification or the Substitute/ROTC Certification) by February 1 for inclusion in the next Teacher’s Choice distribution.
