Common Core Professional Development UpdatesThe NYCDOE is offering the following professional development (PD) and resources on Common Core-aligned curriculum and instruction. This overview provides the year-long schedule for each PD series below.
Register for ReadyGen, Go Math!, Code X, and CMP3 PD sessions by: § January 17 for general session 3 offered on various dates through January 31 (sessions will close on a rolling basis) § January 24 for curriculum team session 4 offered on various dates, February 10–14 § February 14 for general session 4 offered on various dates, March 3–28 Register for curriculum team sessions for high schools and middle schools that did not purchase Core Curriculum materials by January 24; these sessions will focus on shifting pedagogy in the core content areas—ELA, math, social studies, and science. Register for the following New York State Education Department (NYSED) curriculum PD sessions by: § January 24 for Core Knowledge (grades K–2) PD on February 4 § January 31 for PCG (grade 9) PD on February 18 or 19 (for teachers) and February 20 (for administrators and coaches) for schools implementing NYSED’s grade 9 ELA curriculum modules § March 3 for Expeditionary Learning (grades 3–8) PD on March 18 (“Going Deeper with Writing”), March 19–20 (“Supporting Learning through Academic Conversations”), and March 21 (“Leading Change for Administrators and Coaches”); note that the session on March 21 will cover the same content as the session on January 23 § March 7 for Common Core, Inc. PD on March 18–19 (grades K–5) and March 20–21 (grades 6–9) Online Resources: The following online resources are available to schools that opted into the Core Curriculum programs below: § ReadyGen: Teachers and school leaders can now register for the following webinars: o The ReadyGen Phonics Webinar on January 21 or January 27 from 4:00–5:00 p.m. o The ReadyGen Pacing Webinar on January 23 or January 29 from 4:00–5:00 p.m. § Go Math: Teachers and school leaders may register for Go Math! webinar 5, “Strategies to Create Strong Problem Solvers,” which will be held from 4:00–5:00 p.m. on January 22. In this webinar, Go Math!author Juli Dixon will help teachers understand and use high cognitive demand tasks appropriate for developing strong problem solvers. § Core Knowledge: o Teachers and school leaders may register here for the next Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) Preschool office hours session on January 21 at 3:30 pm. This office hours session will cover the role of Core Content and Language Arts Objectives in CKLA Preschool and include time for general questions. o A recording of the December pre-k office hours session is available here. This office hours session covered how preschool daily schedules can accommodate the CKLA Preschool curriculum (including half-day schedules) and focused on specific strategies for adapting small group activities to fit within existing daily schedules.
