Common Core Professional Development Updates
The NYCDOE is offering professional development (PD) and resources on Common Core-aligned curriculum and instruction. The following online resources are available to schools that opted into the Core Curriculum programs below:
§ Go Math!: Teachers and school leaders can view a recording of Go Math! webinar 7, “Supporting Students with Missing Skills.” This webinar covered intervention and assessment, the three tiers of intervention, and hands-on, print, and online supports for students.
§ Code X: Teachers and school leaders can view a recording of the third Code X webinar, “Engaging Students in Evidence-Based Writing.” Use “clifford1” (all lower case) as the password. This webinar explored strategies for supporting students in evidence-based writing. The first half covered the opportunities for daily writing in Code X and the writing process as it relates to the Performance Task. Participants then learned to facilitate and scaffold the Performance Task and strengthen their use of rubrics to normalize grading.
§ Core Knowledge: Teachers and school leaders can register for the next K–2 office hours session, which will be held on April 7 from 3:30–4:30 p.m. During this office hours session, participants will be presented with tools that Core Knowledge is developing with the New York State Education Department to support diverse learners within the skills strand of Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA). The next CKLA Preschool office hours will be held on April 14 from 3:30–4:30 p.m. Additional information with be shared in next week’s Principals’ Weekly.
