Common Core Curriculum Professional Development Updates
The NYCDOE is offering the following professional development (PD) and resources on Common Core-aligned curriculum and instruction:
Registration Links for Curriculum Team Session 5 and Core Knowledge PD: Your staff may now register for curriculum team session five and Core Knowledge PD using the registration links below and in this overview; sessions will take place in May. Please share this information with your staff.
Register by May 9 for:
§ curriculum team sessions for ReadyGen, Go Math!, Code X, and CMP3 (various dates, May 19–23)
§ curriculum team sessions for high schools and middle schools that did not purchase Core Curriculum materials; these sessions will focus on shifting pedagogy in math (May 21, 22), ELA (May 21), science (May 28), and social studies (May 28)
§ Core Knowledge PD sessions: session four for K–2 (May 19) and session two for pre-k (May 20)
Online Resources: The following online resources are available to schools that opted into the Core Curriculum programs below:
§ Go Math!: Teachers and school leaders can register for Go Math! webinar 8, “Teaching Fractions and Number Sense,” which will be held from 4:00–5:00 p.m. on May 15. This webinar will be led by Go Math! author Matt Larson, who will discuss development and support around fraction and number sense instruction.
§ Code X: Teachers and school leaders can now register for the fourth Code X webinar, which will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on May 13, May 15, and May 20. In this webinar, participants will investigate strategies for engaging students in reflection and goal setting. The first half explores strategies for leading students in self-reflection and holding one-on-one conferences. Participants will then discuss how to help students set goals and measure their progress towards reaching their goals over course of the year.
